Company & Vision

ERR European Rail is an independent corporate group, whose main area of expertise is the rental of goods transportation using rail-mounted vehicles.

The corporate group includes a freight car holding company in Austria and marketing and a management company based in Duisburg.

The company partners and ERR's operative team have several years of experience in the rental, management, construction and reconstruction and financing of goods wagons.

Partners in the freight car holding companies and the marketing company include, with various shareholdings, Mr Rainer Baumgarten, Mr Gernot Schwayer, Mr Juergen Bauer, Mr Rainer Kunze and Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI). The operative management of ERR is in the hands of Mr Rainer Kunze and Mr Jürgen Bauer.

Rainer Baumgarten and Gernot Schwayer are the former founders and proprietors of the KVG Kesselwagen Vermietgesellschaft (Tank Wagon Rental Company), acquired in 2002 by GATX and now operating as GATX Rail Europe. Rainer Baumgarten and Gernot Schwayer have decades of experience in the sector and, as entrepreneurs and representatives of the VPI* and UIP** defined the now so significant role of the private goods wagon within the liberalised rail market.

For several years Rainer Kunze was the Managing Director and partner in the On Rail Gesellschaft für Eisenbahnausrüstung und Zubehör (On Rail Company for Railway Equipment and Accessories). Jürgen Bauer was active for several years and in several management positions within the leading American freight car rental company, GATX - and ultimately as the Chairman of the Board of Management of GATX Rail Germany (formerly KVG).

Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI), with its headquarters in Vienna, is one of the leading commerce and investment banks in Austria , and is the country's third largest bank overall. RBI is the leading institute within the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank Group (RBG) and is the core company of the RBI Group.

ERR is convinced that rails will play an important role in the future of European goods transport. The availability of modern, rolling stock that meets the transport requirement is an important factor in the success of the liberalised rail market.

Since its formation, ERR has recorded successful growth. At the moment the company owns approx. 4000 goods wagons of various classes.

As a customer-oriented rental company, ERR considers itself obligated to provide a fast, competent service. giving the increasing demand of our clients, we intend to make considerable further investments in goods wagons during the coming year.
